Hi everyone. I am Anna-Lena and I am a 26 year old German girl currently traveling round the world. I have wanted to do this for a long time. I finally took the leap and moved out of my apartment, sold my car and quit my job.
Before leaving on my journey, I made up a ‘Motto’ for my trip:
“Where I like it I will stay, where I don´t like it I will move on.”
Which means I don’t have a fixed schedule. My only real plan is to get a job while travelling in the hospitality/ tourism industry.
Let me tell you what I’ve gotten up to so far.
My trip began in Africa. The first thing I did was go on a camping safari trip. It was a truly amazing experience to be so close to the animals in the national parks. I overcame my fears and went skydiving from 10,000 feet in the Namibia desert. There are no words to describe the incredible rush when the wind invites you to play. For a brief moment I questioned what I was doing but when you jump and gravity pulls you from the safety of the plane, you understand this is freedom. Africa overwhelmed me with it’s raw beauty and I have great appreciation for the people and the land.
After five spectacular and exciting weeks in Africa I moved on to India. It was here that I really grew as a person and was pushed to my limits. Traveling through India was very difficult for me as I was dealing with personal problems and culture shock. Seeing so much poverty and pollution opened my eyes and showed me how other people have to live in this world.
Next, I traveled to South-East Asia where I traveled for 5 months. It was here, where I learned to appreciate living a relaxed lifestyle. I travelled through Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Shanghai and Indonesia. While in Thailand I took my Open Water Diving Test. Diving under water is a great feeling- the weightlessness, the silence- the only noise being your own breath, learning to communicate through hand signals. When I was underwater it became my own ‘private time’ and I enjoyed every moment.
There are so many fond memories I have of my time in South-East Asia. They include seeing tigers in Chiang Mai, the spectacular Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan, the relaxed bamboo huts and the simple life on the beach in Koh Lanta , the murderous boat ride with 2 meter high waves to the Perhentian Islands, Cambodia and Angkor Wat, Shanghai and the amazing skyline, Java and living with locals in a homestay, diving with Manta Rays, and finally the most beautiful part of my trip – a visit from my family and friends in Bali.
My path has led me to Australia, where I will now spend a year.
Let´s see what adventures Australia has in store for me.
Thank you for reading and hope you enjoyed my adventures.
Best, Anna-Lena
